Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting on a Beating Heart

Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is one of the main procedures for treating coronary artery disease.

The disease occurs when the coronary arteries that feed the heart muscle become narrowed or blocked. As a result, the heart begins to lack oxygen, which can lead to angina, heart attack and heart failure.

During surgery, new blood flow pathways (grafts) are created that bypass the damaged sections of the vessels and restore normal blood supply to the heart.
