Correction of Heart Valve Disease
Valvular heart disease occurs when the heart valves — mitral, aortic or tricuspid — malfunction.
In such conditions, a valve may not open properly (stenosis) or may not close completely (regurgitation). This places a strain on the heart and gradually impairs its function.
Surgical treatment includes two main options:
Valve repair
The valve is restored and the patient's own tissue is preserved.
Valve replacement
The damaged valve is replaced with an artificial mechanical or biological prosthesis.
The choice of method depends on the extent of valve damage, the patient's age, and the specifics of the disease.
Surgery eliminates the underlying condition, restores normal haemodynamics and significantly improves the patient's quality of life.
